Uniform Civil Code has been perhaps the most contentious subject in the Indian social scenario ever since the national independence in 1947. And what strikes an intelligent, inquisitive mind is the sharp division and also dissensions among Indians on this. While a major chunk of Hindus is in its support by and large, the majority of Muslims are in strident opposition. As per several Muslim theologists, an enactment of Uniform Civil Code would put the Islamic identity and its distinguishing trait at risk. However, the nationalist forces do consider the Code to be the best representation of patriotism till date and since, there is already the existence of Hindu Code of Bills, UCC must be executed without fail to bring the entire nation under a tight grasp.
