Established by Jagadguru Shankaracharya in the 8th century, Sharda Peeth is dedicated to Mata Sharda or Goddess of Learning and is one of the most ancient 18 Maha Shakti Peethas. Till 1947 or the partition of India, the Temple located in the Neelum Valley of Azad Pakistan was regarded along with Martand Sun Temple and Baba Amarnath a pilgrimage for Hindu pilgrims. However, it became almost extinct to Hindus soon after the partition in 1947, formation of Pakistan and the first Indo-Pakistan war on Kashmir. Now, the Temple is in ruins but Sri Ravindar Pandita’s heartfelt endeavors to recommence Sharda Peeth are raising new hopes.
